Most of our 80s movies have been the nostalgia-filled romps through the sporting world, fantasy adventures, time traveling teens, or the high school hangups of John Hughes… this episode we take a turn into a dark corner of the 80s with Less Than Zero. Based on the novel of the same name by Bret Easton Ellis (writer of American Psycho), this film follows three friends during the winter break after their high school graduation. Clay has gone east to attend an Ivy League school, leaving his girlfriend Blair and best friend Julian back in Los Angeles, where Blair is modeling and Julian has failed at being a record producer. To top it all off, Julian and Blair have fallen prey to the LA drug and party scene. When Clay comes back home for Christmas, he realizes that he might be the only one who can pull his friends out of this pit.
