April is our month of movies that are just weird or different enough not to fit into some of the other themes we had assigned to each month. That being said, we start the month off with Dead Ringers and The Last Temptation of Christ. Both a little controversial. Both created by visionary directors. Both a little unsettling.
One of our movies this week is full of magic and wonder. Swords and sorcery. The other one is a bit more murder-y. We explore the adventurous world of Willow alongside the dark streets of Chicago being haunted by a possessed doll: Willow & Child’s Play.
When a one-night stand turns into a couple of nights… and then Dan suddenly remembers he’s married to a fantastic wife, has a great kid, and a fairly low-maintenance dog… you’ve got either a recipe for disaster or bunny soup. Whichever one sounds tastier.
Take the cast of ALIENS and put them in Oklahoma… and make them vampires. Then you’ve got Kathryn Bigelow’s feature film directing debut: NEAR DARK.
(I wonder what Paul Reiser would’ve looked like as a vampire…)
